Author and illustrator Fabi Santiago

About Fabi

Fabi Santiago writes and illustrates children’s books and is best known for her picture book Tiger in a Tutu, shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. She also illustrates Sarah Driver’s middle-grade Once We Were Witches series, published by Farshore.

Fabi was born in Rio and brought up in the Brazilian countryside, where the food is spicy hot, and cowboy boots are more than a fashion statement. Aside from her children’s book work, Fabi is a self-taught artist and printmaker and makes pop surrealist paintings. You can find more about her art here. Her favourite things are skiing, cycling, camping, and making zombie apocalypse survival plans.

She is currently writing her first YA novel, inspired by her love of 90s horror movies, back-garden parties and badly-behaved strong female characters. There are zombies in it. Fabi works from her home studio in London, where she lives with a ginger fellow and their ungrateful (but terribly cute) cats.
